Palma de Mallorca, 19.01.22 – Albastar, a Spanish private airline based in Palma de Mallorca, is among the three companies who won the FiturNext 2022 challenge focusing on accessibility in tourism.
In fact, during the Fitur Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid, the Fiturnext Observatory, a Fitur platform dedicated to promoting good sustainability practices in tourism and sponsored by Mastercard, identified and analysed globally launched initiatives able to generate a positive impact, based on their replicability and accessibility. An offer accessible to all tourists, to improve the quality of tourism in terms of sustainability, is the pillar of the winning initiatives and the mission that has always driven the Spanish airline’s business activities.
Albastar, TUR4all and COCEMF will be presented today with awards for their projects that respectively won in the categories of tourism services and inclusive complementary offer, new technologies for accessible tourism and management and promotion of accessibility in the sector.
Having invested professionalism and resources into making air transport increasingly accessible to passengers who previously travelled to Lourdes and other European destinations by other means of transport, such as trains or buses, requiring longer travel times and consequent discomfort, has contributed to Albastar becoming the reference airline for religious tourism in Europe. Albastar is, in fact, the partner of reference for major tour operators specialising in organising trips for passengers with disabilities, enabling the disabled to fly comfortably on board their fleet of aircraft, which can also accommodate medical stretchers. Over more than ten years of activity, the Spanish airline has therefore generated a positive social impact, offering travellers the opportunity to fly without barriers to all destinations served by its extensive network of flights throughout Europe, ensuring an attentive, punctual and comfortable service for all passengers. In addition, Albastar’s air crews have for many years regularly attended training courses at a centre in Toledo specialising in the care and management of people with reduced mobility (Hospital Nacional de Paraplejicos Castilla – La Mancha), in order to offer specific assistance and be able to handle critical situations with SCP passengers (Special Category Passengers).

During the Fitur 2022 trade fair, Albastar announced its schedule of direct flights to Lourdes from several Spanish airports, including Madrid, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca, Murcia and Valencia.
