It would seem like a dream job, but is it really just that?

What does a flight attendant do?

This is what we asked Irene Civera, Cabin Crew Training Manager, responsible for training Albastar’s flight attendants.
Irene saw the company start up, has experienced its growth and she still gets excited today when she talks about the company’s first flight on 31 July 2010 with the crew she selected.

Irene, why did you choose this profession?
I started when I was 20 and right from the start I found training and teaching methods in the field of aviation fascinating. This field has evolved significantly since then, but I still find learning and teaching this job interesting.

Why did you choose Albastar?
I chose Albastar because it is a company that attaches great importance on staff training, contributing to increasing the level and professional quality of its crews and services considerably.

Irene, tell us a little about what a flight attendant really does? What are their duties?
The job of a flight attendant is to greet all passengers on board with a smile, make them feel at ease, satisfy their needs, ensure that their flight is as comfortable and pleasant as possible. In addition to these commercial tasks, obviously a flight attendant also has very important and indispensable responsibilities and duties regarding safety, which, together with managing any potential emergency situations, are of primary importance.

What do you have to do to become a flight attendant?
You have to pass a qualifying examination to become a flight attendant. Individuals wishing to take the examination can attend a course, compliant with European legislation, lasting approximately one and a half months, during which subjects such as meteorology, emergency procedures, first aid, aeronautical legislation and dangerous goods are taught. Various practical lessons are also taught, such as, swimming, fire-fighting, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, to train flight attendants to deal with emergency situations.

What are the physical characteristics and personality traits that flight attendants need to have?
With regard to personality, being open, cheerful and communicative is essential, in addition to being able to speak foreign languages and having a flexible mind that is able to adapt to specific situations occurring on a daily basis.
As regards physical characteristics, flight attendants must be smart in appearance and be tall enough to carry out certain necessary daily tasks.

What benefits do flight attendants have?
This job allows you to help many passengers and to travel to many extremely beautiful and exotic destinations.

The flight attendant profession is therefore laden with responsibilities, such as, ensuring maximum safety on board, being the reference point in emergency situations and taking care of passengers with different needs.
