PASSANGERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
The rights of people with disabilities or reduced mobility in air transport are included in Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of July 5, 2006.
To guarantee a service tailored to your needs, the request for assistance for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility (special category of passengers) must be made to your travel agency at least 48 hours before the departure of your flight.
They fall within the special category of passengers:
- The passenger who needs assistance in a wheelchair at the airport, as well as during all boarding and disembarking phases of the flight.
- The passenger who can walk independently inside the aircraft and go up and downstairs but requires a wheelchair or other means of transportation for long distances within the terminal.
- The passenger who can walk independently within the aircraft and the terminal, but who requires a wheelchair to go down and upstairs.
- The blind or visually impaired passenger who requires assistance in orientation and communication in the terminal and on the plane.
- The passenger with partial or total hearing loss who requires assistance for communication in the terminal and on the plane.
- The passenger traveling with a guide dog.
- The passenger with crutches or a walker.
- The passenger with respiratory problems and/or who needs oxygen supply for medical use.
- The passenger with prosthetic limbs.
- The passenger with limbs in cast.
Once at the airport, passengers are requested to present themselves at the check-in counters at least two hours before the flight departure. From that moment on, Albastar will coordinate transfers within their facilities with airport service services, including, if necessary, adapted services.
WHEELCHAIR TRANSPORTATION
When traveling with your wheelchair, please specify to your agency or tour operator the type of chair, its dimensions, weight, and whether it is manual, or battery powered.
In the case of wheelchairs with batteries, the passenger must request transportation from their agency or tour operator at least 3 business days before the flight departure. In compliance with the legislation relating to the air transport of dangerous goods, Albastar applies restrictions on the transport of this type of wheelchairs.
At no additional charge and subject to space limitations on board the aircraft, up to two wheelchairs per passenger are possible.
Important:
- Albastar does not accept wheelchairs with wet or spillable batteries.
- The transport of small vehicles powered by lithium batteries is not permitted, either as checked baggage or as carry-on baggage. These objects are NOT considered mobility aids. Some examples are, airwheel, solowheel, hoverboard, mini-segway, balance wheel, etc.
The passenger may keep his or her own wheelchair until boarding the plane, from where it will be collected and stowed in the hold, or request the airport service from check-in. Depending on the airport and the circumstances, the airport manager may require that the same chair be checked in at counters and replaced by a manager’s chair during the stay in the terminal.
ABLE SAFETY ASSISTANT OR COMPANION
People who are capable of acting individually in the event of an emergency may travel without a safety assistant, which means: unfastening the seat belt, leaving their seat and reaching the emergency exit without help. In addition to obtaining and adjusting the oxygen mask, understanding safety instructions and emergency advice.
If a companion is needed, he or she will be over 18 years of age and must be willing and able to understand the safety instructions and physically assist the person with functional diversity in case of emergency.
TRANSPORTATION OF RESPIRATORY AIDS
Upon request by the passenger, Albastar accepts on its flights breathing aid machines, or oxygen concentrators (CPAP, PPOC) powered autonomously by batteries that comply with the regulations on the transport of dangerous goods by air. Under no circumstances may these or other devices be connected to the aircraft’s power outlets and the passenger must carry a sufficient supply for the duration of the flight.
SEAT ASSIGNMENT
Depending on your needs, we will try to provide you with the best location on the plane for your own safety and comfort.
For example, it is not possible to assign seats in emergency exit rows to passengers with reduced mobility and groups of passengers with reduced mobility must be seated throughout the cabin to ensure that each passenger with reduced mobility is surrounded by the maximum number of passengers capable of assisting in an emergency.
If you are traveling with a companion, Albastar will make every reasonable effort to assign you a seat next to or nearby. Seat assignments for people accompanying people with disabilities or reduced mobility will not have any additional charge.
At no additional charge, in compliance with the privacy needs of passengers and European regulations that protect the physical safety of cabin crew, Albastar staff undertakes to assist any person with a disability or reduced mobility who requires assistance to travel to services if necessary. However, cabin crew are not authorized to help with eating, using the bathroom or carrying out personal hygiene actions. They will not be able to provide medical services such as giving injections. If your health condition requires that other people provide you with this type of assistance, you must travel with a trained companion capable of performing this service.
